Market Brief

A commonly used research function is to compare energy securities of different fuels or energy sources in common units. Oil refining is the process of separating crude oil into its different constituents and then purifying each of those constituents into marketable products. It is useful to compare the price of the marketable constituents with the price of crude oil. Since different energy securities have different methods of quotation, it is impossible to compare securities without first establishing a common unit of quotation.

MIMIC provides users with the ability to compare different energy securities in common units by using the built-in unit conversion function in the Data Builder.
