Follow these instructions to install the MIMIC application. In addition to MIMIC, if you are installing MIMICExcel, please be sure to see the separate installation sections above for these products as there are additional steps that need to be followed:
You must have Java 1.4.2 or higher to run the MIMIC application. Go to http://www.java.com and select the Free Java Download button to download and install the latest version of Java for free.
You can access the MIMIC program file from the MIMIC "Downloads"
Web page. The program executable will appear as follows (version
numbers subject to change): mimic4_0_1.exe. We suggest
that you close all other Windows programs before running the program
executable.
Run the executable, the program will start and give you a couple of warnings. Click Next to continue.

In the next screen fill in the information, and click Next.

Now the program's installation path is selected. The default path should be fine. MIMIC Excel will be installed by default. Clear the check box if MIMIC Excel should not be installed. Then, click Next.
The user property files are no longer stored in the
installation directory. They are now stored in |

Now click Next and the program installation will begin.

If MIMIC Excel was installed, Microsoft Excel will open and the following dialog box will confirm the installation. Click Yes.

MIMIC and the MIMIC Excel functionality (if selected) are now installed. Click Finish to exit the installation.

MIMIC can now be accessed through your start menu.
If Java 1.4.2 or higher is not on your system, then after installing MIMIC and trying to start the MIMIC program, the following message will display:

If Java 1.4.2 or higher is not installed on your system, go to http://www.java.com and select the Free Java Download link to download and install the latest version of Java (free software).
If you have Java 1.4.2 or higher installed on your system and
the above message displays then you must manually set the
JAVA_HOME_MIMIC environment variable. The
mimic.exe program is an executable wrapper for invoking
Java and starting the MIMIC application. To invoke the Java, the
wrapper searches for an installed version of the Java Runtime
Environment (JRE). Several environment variables are searched as well
as the Windows Registry in this order: environment variable
JAVA_HOME_MIMIC, environment variable
JAVA_HOME, environment variable JDK_HOME,
and the Windows Registry for installed JREs.
This enables users to run MIMIC with an alternate JRE. For
example, suppose the user has a version of the JRE installed under
c:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_06 and wanted to use it
when running MIMIC. The user would set the environment variable
JAVA_HOME_MIMIC=c:\Program
files\Java\j2re1.4.2_06.
