LIM Software Development Team - May 2007 - MIMICExcel users that have upgraded to Java™ 1.6 will experience some endemic "repaint" issues when using MIMICExcel. These occur when the user leaves MIMICExcel to return to Excel or another application and then tries to get back to MIMICExcel. In many cases, the MIMICExcel window is not repainted. The LIM development team is working with Sun Microsystems® to understand these issues but will likely have to wait for a new Java update to resolve them. In the meantime, staying with earlier versions of Java will not impact the functionality of MIMICExcel so this is the LIM recommended and supported implementation. If you have upgraded to Java 1.6 and wish to return to Java 1.5, then select the link below to return to the previous software version. Users should choose "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 11". The upcoming release of MIMIC, version 3.2.0.0 is in beta testing and is expected to be available for general release to clients by the end of May. This new release of MIMIC provides an interim workaround to the repainting issue for MIMICExcel in places where the problem is known and can be controlled. For example, going from MIMICExcel to Excel and back again. LIM has added code to repaint anytime the window is moved. Resizing the window also triggers a repaint. There are a couple of options the user has if for some reason they need to force MIMIC to repaint. An example would be when the MIMICExcel application displays and the user goes to another application window that covers the MIMIC window. When returning back to Excel, the MIMIC window can be repainted by moving or resizing the window. |
