Global Insight Equities and Indices

LIM Data Warehouse - October 1, 2003 - Global Insight Exchange Composite Prices and Indices are now available in your MIM as a replacement for the old symbols scheduled to be removed by November 1, 2003. This is a necessary step in the evolution of the LIM product line to allow for further expansion of the MIM hierarchy. LIM has increased its equities pricing coverage by including active and retired symbols from Global Insight, as well as optional OTC equity pricing, mutual funds and Canadian equities. A new optional service is now available to receive the Close of Market Updates for equity pricing. In addition, the MIM hierarchy has been enhanced to provide greater ease of use and organization.

Increased Equities Pricing Coverage and Indices from Global Insight

The core package includes pricing coverage for AMEX, NASDAQ, and NYSE. Optionally, OTC can be purchased in an "all equities" package. The following shows the sheer quantity of symbol coverage for each of the exchanges for both active and retired symbols:

  • Amex - Active (830), Retired (966)
  • Nasdaq - Active (3,573), Retired (4,462)

Enchanced Hierarchy for Equity Pricing and Indices from Global Insight

The new Global Insight database includes 2 folders under the Equities folder, one for active symbols (GlobalInsight) and one for retired symbols (GlobalInsightRetired).

The symbols are further organized by exchange.

As an added convenience, symbols are further organized into separate ticker and cusip folders:

Also available are indices from Global Insight. The Global Insight indices are organized in the same manner as the pricing equities. Under the "Indices" folder there are 2 folders, one for active indices (GlobalInsight) and one for retired indices (GlobalInsightRetired). Under these folders the symbols are organized into 2 separate folders: "Cusips" and "Tickers".

Symbol Naming Standard

In addition to organization enhancements, there is a new symbol standard implemented. Note that the exchange is the primary listing exchange:

New ticker symbol format:
  GII.ticker.exchange

Examples:
  IBM is now GII.IBM.NYSE
  MSFT is now GII.MSFT.NASDAQ

As an added convenience alias MIM symbols have been provided with their 8 digit cusip number:

New cusip symbol format:
  GII.cusip

For example, the cusip for IBM is:
  GII.45920010

Discontinued MIM Symbols
